A couple of these can already take up more room in a relationship than you'd expect.

This is a real pattern, not a sign you're incompatible.

These patterns can run deep, but they're rarely permanent. Couples counseling is often exactly the kind of work that helps untangle them.

Why Couples Counseling

Untangling What's Grown Between You

Facing challenges in your relationship can feel overwhelming and even heartbreaking. Maybe you've noticed more distance between you and your partner: more arguments, less connection, a growing sense that something feels off. You might find yourselves stuck in the same patterns, struggling to communicate, or unsure how to bridge the gap that's formed between you.

Sometimes the big fights aren't even the hardest part. Quiet disconnection, unresolved hurt, and the ordinary stress of life can pile up just as much, pulling you apart in ways that are harder to name. If this sounds familiar, our Maryland couples therapists are here to help you find your way back.

We start with what's creating the most friction right now, rather than trying to solve every issue in the first session.

The strongest relationships are ones where both partners are actively involved in the work, not just the one who suggested therapy.

Everyday moments often shape a relationship as much as major conflicts do, and that's often where change starts.

Why Private Pay?

Why We Choose Not to Work With Insurance

Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis before they'll cover a session, and that diagnosis becomes part of your permanent medical record. Relationship struggles aren't a diagnosis, and we don't think they should need to be to get support.

Your session notes are never sent to an insurance company or added to a record outside this practice.

Insurance can dictate how often you meet and sometimes which therapist you're allowed to see. With private pay, it's you, your partner, and your therapist deciding what you need, for as long as you need it.

Therapists who bill insurance often carry thirty or more clients to make the math work. Ours don't, which means we can respond quickly and stay available between sessions.

Many plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network care. We're happy to provide a superbill you can submit directly to your insurance provider.

Questions, Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

It's common for one partner to feel more ready than the other. We're happy to start with a conversation about what coming in together might look like, at whatever pace feels manageable for both of you.

No. Our role is to help both of you understand what's happening between you, not to decide who's right. Every perspective in the room matters.

In couples therapy, the relationship itself is the focus rather than either partner individually. We look at the patterns that happen between you and work on shifting them together.

That uncertainty is one of the most common reasons couples come to therapy. Whether you're working to rebuild or trying to gain clarity about what's next, having a neutral space to talk it through can help.

It depends on what you're working through. Some couples come for a few months around a specific issue; others continue longer to keep building on what they've learned. We'll check in together regularly about what's working.

Annapolis Counseling Center is not in network with any insurances. Please view our rates & insurance page for more information before getting started.
