A couple of these can already take up more space in your day than you'd expect.

This is a real pattern, not a personal failing.

These patterns can run deep, but they're not permanent. Therapy is often exactly the kind of support that helps untangle them.

Why Therapy

When You Can't Quite Name What's Wrong

You might find yourself feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or emotionally exhausted, often without fully understanding why. Perhaps you're battling constant self-doubt, stress, or a lingering sense of sadness that makes it difficult to stay present in your daily life. You may be carrying the weight of responsibilities and expectations that feel impossible to meet, leading to frustration, burnout, or isolation. For some, these struggles show up physically, through sleep disturbances or headaches. Others cope by avoiding situations, relationships, or experiences that once brought joy.

Whatever you're facing, you don't have to go through it alone. Many people in Maryland and beyond experience similar struggles, and while it might feel isolating, these challenges are more common than you'd think. It doesn't have to stay this way. Our Maryland therapists are here to help.

You don't have to be in crisis for support to make a difference. Many people start therapy simply because something feels harder than it should.

Mental health struggles are more common than most people realize. Feeling isolated in it doesn't mean you actually are.

Therapy isn't only about talking through what's wrong. It's about building practical tools and strategies you can use in daily life.

Why Private Pay?

Why We Choose Not to Work With Insurance

Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis before they'll cover a session, and that diagnosis becomes part of your permanent medical record. We don't think you should need a label to get support.

Your diagnosis and session notes are never sent to an insurance company or added to a record outside this practice.

Insurance can dictate how often you meet and sometimes which therapist you're allowed to see. With private pay, it's you and your therapist deciding what you need, for as long as you need it.

Therapists who bill insurance often carry thirty or more clients to make the math work. Ours don't, which means we can respond quickly and stay available between sessions.

Many plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network care. We're happy to provide a superbill you can submit directly to your insurance provider.

Questions, Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Reaching out for support takes real courage, not weakness. Many people start therapy simply because something feels harder than it should, not because anything is broken.

Friends and family care about you, but they're close to the situation, and their advice often comes from their own experiences. A therapist listens without judgment, has training in recognizing patterns you might not see, and is focused entirely on what's helpful for you.

Not at all. Some people come in with a clear issue in mind, and others come because something feels off but they can't quite name it yet. Either is a good enough reason to start.

It depends on what you're working through. Some people come for a few months to work through something specific; others stay longer to keep building on what they've learned. We'll check in regularly and adjust the plan together.

Annapolis Counseling Center is not in network with any insurances. Please view our rates & insurance page for more information before getting started.

Showing up consistently and being honest, even when it's uncomfortable, makes the biggest difference. Therapy works best when you're willing to try things outside of session too, whether that's noticing a pattern during the week or practicing something new before your next appointment.
